WHAT IS GEO

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

GEO is the practice of optimizing your site so that AI search engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews — can find, understand, trust, and cite your content. Where SEO targets ten blue links, GEO targets the AI answer that increasingly replaces them.

Understand

Make your content easy for LLMs to parse, extract, and quote.

Trust

Build the authority signals — author bylines, citations, knowledge graph entries — that AI engines weight heavily.

Access

Let GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and other AI crawlers reach your content without friction.

WHAT WE CHECK

54 signals. 14 dimensions. One score.

GrowthClaw audits your site across the full GEO stack — from technical crawlability to AI-graded content quality — to surface every signal that affects how AI engines find and cite you.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why your GEO Score matters

1
AI search is replacing traditional search

ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are answering more queries every quarter. Sites that aren't GEO-optimized get cited less — or skipped entirely.

2
Traditional SEO is not enough

AI engines weight signals very differently: E-E-A-T, entity clarity, and paragraph structure matter more than backlink counts.

3
Early movers win compounding visibility

Being cited by an AI engine earns you a position in answers shown to millions of users — and the gap is widening.

FAQ

What is GEO?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing your website so AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude, and Gemini can find, understand, trust, and cite your content. As more users get answers from AI instead of clicking blue links, GEO determines whether your brand shows up in those answers.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO optimizes for traditional search rankings — keywords, backlinks, and click-through rate on the SERP. GEO optimizes for AI engines that synthesize answers from many sources at once. They weight signals very differently: E-E-A-T, paragraph-level extractability, structured data, brand entity recognition, and AI crawler access matter far more than raw backlink counts. Many SEO best practices still help, but GEO requires a new layer on top.

How does the scoring work?

We run 54 individual signals across 14 dimensions — 41 mechanical checks (robots.txt, schema validity, llms.txt, headers, performance) plus 13 LLM-powered checks (E-E-A-T quality, platform readiness, content citability). Each signal is weighted by severity and dimension importance to produce a 0-100 score and an A-to-F letter grade. The scoring catalog is versioned so results are reproducible.

Why does my site need GEO?

AI search is growing fast: ChatGPT alone handles billions of queries every month, and Google AI Overviews now appear above traditional results for a large share of searches. Sites that ignore GEO get cited less by AI — or skipped entirely — while early movers compound visibility as AI usage grows. Traditional SEO is necessary but no longer sufficient.

How long does a scan take?

A full scan typically takes 5 to 12 minutes. We crawl your page, run mechanical checks immediately, then perform LLM-powered analysis on E-E-A-T, citability, and platform readiness — that's the slow part, but it's the part only an AI can do.

Is this free?
